On 10th October, I had the incredible honour of playing the piano at the Talgo 2024 Awards, hosted at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Madrid. This wasn’t just any event; it was an evening that blended groundbreaking achievements in technology with a deep appreciation for the arts. Here’s a look into my experience at this unforgettable event.

An Unexpected Invitation

When the invitation from Talgo arrived, I was excited—and honestly, a bit surprised. Talgo is known globally for its innovation in high-speed, lightweight trains, and the awards are their way of recognising excellence in technology and social impact. The chance to perform at such a prestigious event was beyond anything I’d imagined.

The Awards: A Moment of Inspiration

The Talgo Awards recognised three main areas: Technological Innovation, the Role of Women in Vocational Training, and Excellence in Women in Engineering. Listening to each recipient’s journey was moving; every story reflected incredible dedication, creativity, and an unstoppable drive. Hearing about their paths made me think of music’s parallels—how much hard work, passion, and resilience are behind the scenes of any performance.

Watching the winners be celebrated was uplifting. They weren’t recognised solely for their achievements, but also for how their work contributes to society. I was especially moved by the women honoured in the fields of engineering and vocational training; they are paving the way for future generations.

Taking the Stage

When it was my turn to play, I felt a rush of excitement and nerves all at once. The audience was full of influential figures, from ambassadors to engineers, and I wanted my music to be a worthy part of the night. As Pepa Fernández, a Spanish journalist who presented the gala said: “Music means that we take a pause in life, in the daily hustle and bustle, it is like a train journey that we have all dreamed of at some point, it allows you to travel with emotions, feelings, to known and unknown places and to return to the past.”

Engaging with the Audience

One of the best parts of the evening came after the ceremony. People gathered, exchanged ideas, and sparked new connections. I had the chance to chat with engineers, fellow music lovers, and even some of the awardees. These conversations added a whole new layer to the night. Sharing experiences with others who are so committed to their fields made me feel part of something bigger than just a performance. Whether discussing music or technology, each conversation reminded me that creativity and passion have no boundaries.

Thinking back on that evening, I feel grateful to be part of such a rich musical world. Every performance isn’t just about playing notes; it’s about sharing a piece of yourself and creating a moment with the audience. The Talgo Awards reminded me why I love music: it has the power to connect people, inspire change, and celebrate the best in us.

Looking Ahead

Performing at the Talgo 2024 Awards was far more than a memorable evening. I walked away with fresh inspiration and a renewed energy to connect with others, to share the joy that music brings. For my fellow musicians and music lovers, I urge you to dive into new experiences, seek out chances to learn, and celebrate the endless magic of creativity.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. I can’t wait to share more stories, melodies, and moments with you all. Let’s keep creating, inspiring, and growing together!
